The mojito margarita is a refreshing drink that combines the citrusy coolness of a mojito with the festive vibrancy of a margarita. This recipe takes the best of both worlds, joining zesty lime and mint with the smooth tequila punch of a margarita.
Part mojito, part margarita, this cocktail will transport you right to summer or vacation paradise. It’s perfect for poolside lounging, backyard barbecues, or simply enjoying a cool and flavorful drink on a warm day. So, grab your shaker, gather your ingredients, and get ready to create a cocktail masterpiece!
Mojito Margarita Ingredients
Here is what comes together to create this refreshing cocktail. For the full list of ingredients and their measurements, scroll to the recipe card at the bottom of the post.
- Fresh mint leaves: Mint is the heart and soul of a mojito, adding a delightful coolness and herbaceous aroma.
- Limes: Fresh lime juice provides the tart and citrusy backbone of the mojito, perfectly complementing the sweetness and tequila. Citrus juices are always best when squeezed right from the fruit, but bottled lime juice will work in a pinch.
- Simple syrup: This sweetener balances the tartness of the lime juice and creates a smooth, well-rounded drink. It is so easy to make your own and keep it on hand for all of your favorite cocktails.
- Tequila: The star of the margarita show! Use a tequila that is labeled 100% agave for the best flavor that complements the other ingredients.
- Club soda: This adds a refreshing fizz and helps to balance the sweetness and tartness of the other ingredients. I like to keep those small bottles of club soda in my pantry or fridge so I always have fresh soda for cocktails.
- Ice: Crushed ice is ideal for chilling the drink quickly and diluting it slightly as it melts.
- Lime wedge or fresh mint sprig (for garnish): A final touch of visual appeal and a delightful aroma to enhance the drinking experience.
How to Make Simple Syrup
How to Make a Mojito Margarita
This mint margarita comes together right in the glass you will enjoy it in. For the full recipe including all measurements, scroll to the recipe card at the bottom of the post.
- Prepare your glasses. Coat the rim of the glass with simple syrup and dip in a shallow plate of kosher salt.
- Muddle things together. Gently muddle mint leaves, lime juice, and simple syrup in the bottom of the glass. (No muddler? The end of a wooden spoon does the trick nicely, too!)
- Add the rest of the ingredients. Add in the tequila, add ice, and top with club soda. Give it a gentle stir.
- Garnish and enjoy! Finish off the presentation by adding a couple more mint leaves or fresh mint sprigs and a lime wedge.
Make a Pitcher
To make a pitcher of mojito margaritas, increase all of the ingredients to the following amounts. Follow the recipe as written, building the cocktail in a pitcher rather than a glass. You can always adjust the amount of simple syrup or club soda to your taste preference. If you prefer a sweeter drink, add more simple syrup a little at a time until you reach your desired taste. For a less fizzy drink, use a bit less club soda. To stretch the drink further, add more club soda.
- 30 mint leaves + extra for garnish
- 1/3 cup (3 ounces) of lime juice
- 3/4 cup (6 ounces) of simple syrup (plus more for rimming the glasses)
- 1 1/2 cups (12 ounces) of tequila
- 2 1/4 cups (18 ounces) club soda
