A variation of the Negroni, the Boulevardier uses bourbon instead of gin and has no trouble holding its own. While the swap of spirits is simple, the flavor of this cocktail is anything but!

With only three ingredients, you’ll waste no time getting to enjoy this rich and sophisticated cocktail on a chilly evening. The “bittersweet” bond of the Boulevardier will make you feel like you’re at your very own speakeasy!

Boulevardier Ingredients

With just three simple ingredients and very simple preparation, you’ll be able to enjoy all the Boulevardier has to offer in no time. Using good quality ingredients does aid in the success and enjoyment of this cocktail! Be sure to scroll to the recipe card at the bottom of the post for the full recipe including all measurements.

  • Bourbon: The base spirit in a Boulevardier with sweet, caramel, and vanilla notes. Choose a good quality bourbon whiskey.
  • Sweet Vermouth: A fortified wine with herbal, floral, and slightly sweet flavors that balance the bitterness of the Campari and enhance the richness of the bourbon.
  • Campari: Campari is an Italian bitter liqueur made from an infusion of herbs and fruit in alcohol and water. It has a vibrant red color and a distinctive, bitter taste with hints of cherry, orange, and spice that is also the star of the Campari Spritz. Its bitterness cuts through the sweetness of the vermouth and the richness of the bourbon, creating a well-balanced drink.
  • Orange garnish: Optional, but an orange twist or slice is typically used as a garnish for the Boulevardier.
