While Daiquiris made with strawberries, bananas and mangos commonly take center stage, this original version is pure and authentic. It’s tart and easy to make, this is sure to be a cocktail you’ll come back to!

What is a Daiquiri

If you’re like me, you ordered a virgin strawberry daiquiri in high school and thought you were the coolest kid on the block. With a few years and some wisdom, it turns out that a classic daiquiri isn’t frozen OR topped with whipped cream. A daiquiri is a family of cocktails made up of three components: rum, citrus juice, and a sweetener. While a classic daiquiri is shaken and strained into a chilled glass, there are many variations on the classic, including different flavors and blending it with ice to make a frozen cocktail.

Daiquiri Recipe

With a few minutes and only three ingredients you’ll have yourself a Daiquiri. Combine about three ounces of your good quality white rum (dark rum would significantly change the flavor and color of the drink, so stick with white or light rum), just shy of two ounces of lime juice, and one ounce of simple syrup to a shaker filled with ice. Give it a good shake and strain into a chilled cocktail glass. Garnish with a lime twist and enjoy!

How To Make a Daiquiri

  • Fill a shaker with ice
  • Add white rum, lime juice, and simple syrup
  • Shake until chilled and strain into a chilled cocktail glass
  • Garnish with a lime twist

To make a lime twist, simply slice a ring from a fresh lime, cut the pulp off of the peel so that you have one long thin strip of peel. Twist it into a curly-q and add it to the rim of your cocktail glass. The peel should naturally hold its shape.

What is the Difference Between a Daiquiri and a Margarita

Fire up your blender to make your Daiquiri frozen! Simply add your rum, lime juice, and simple syrup to the blender with ice and blend until smooth.

While both a Daiquiri and a Margarita are popular and refreshing cocktails, there are a few differences between the two. A Daiquiri employs rum as the base spirit, while the margarita uses tequila. While a Daiquiri contains rum, lime juice, and simple syrup, a Margarita uses tequila, triple sec, and sweet and sour mix.
