This may just become your favorite margarita to date. Its invigorating flavor and ocean-tinted color really make it stand out, requiring only four ingredients and a cocktail shaker.

Blue Margarita Ingredients

Just a few simple ingredients are needed for these yummy blue margaritas. For the measurements of each ingredient, see the recipe card at the bottom of the page.

  • Blue Curacao: A bittersweet orange-flavored bright blue liqueur that is also used in this tropical Blue Lagoon Cocktail. It gives the margarita its color and adds to the flavor profile.
  • Tequila: When buying tequila for any cocktail, make sure that it is 100% agave. This ensures that it is pure tequila and doesn’t have any extra additives and fillers that affect the flavor.
  • Lemon juice: Freshly squeezed is always preferred for cocktails.
  • Simple syrup: Perfectly balances the tartness of the other ingredients. Make your own Simple Syrup with just two ingredients. It tastes so much better than the store-bought stuff!

How to Make a Blue Curacao Margarita

These blue margaritas come together in just a few simple steps, as outlined here. For the full recipe and ingredient measurements, see the recipe card at the bottom of the post.

  1. Prepare your glass. Rim your glass with salt by rubbing a slice of lime around the rim and then dipping the glass in a plate or shallow bowl of salt. Set aside.
  2. Combine ingredients. Add blue curacao, tequila, lemon juice, and simple syrup to a cocktail shaker filled with ice.
  3. Shake well. Shake vigorously until well mixed and the outside of the shaker is very cold.
  4. Strain and garnish. Strain the drink into your glass with ice.

How to Serve

Like most margaritas, salt on the rim of the glass really complements the flavor of the margarita. You can serve blue margaritas over ice in margarita glasses or any glass tumbler. Garnish with a lime wedge for serving. To prepare the rim of your glass:

  • Run a lime wedge around the rim of your glass.
  • Dip the rim of your glass into a shallow bowl or plate of salt.
