A Chelada is an incredibly simple beer cocktail originating from Mexico. In fact, you probably already are drinking your beer like this from time to time. This drink is often made with Modelo and called a Modelo Chelada.
Chelada Ingredients
- Light Beer
- Lime Juice
- Salt or Tajin
How to Make a Chelada
- Using the wedge of a lime, rim a tumbler glass with lime juice. Dip it in corse salt or tajin.
- Fill the tumbler with ice.
- Add in the beer and gently stir in lime juice.
Chelada vs. Michelada
The Chelada is often mistaken for a Michelada. A Michelada is essentially a Bloody Mary that has been made with beer instead of vodka. It also can be just be a Chelada that has hot sauce mixed into it.
While closely related, the Chelada and the Michelada are two distinct drinks.
What is Tajin
Tajin is a seasoning mix made from dried ground chiles, dehydrated lime, and salt. It is found in the international aisle of the grocery store. While delicious, it is not required to make this great cocktail. You can simply garnish your glasses with regular salt and a lime wedge.
Serving the Chelada
A Chelada is served on the rocks in a tall tumbler, with a salted rim and a lime wedge.
