This Wine and Whiskey Cocktail is the perfect combination of red wine, whiskey, and lemon with a little splash of simple syrup. If you love red wine and you love whiskey, you haven’t lived until you’ve tired this cocktail. If you are looking for another cocktail with whiskey, you will have to make this Dessert Wasteland Whiskey Cocktail. And of course you need to try this classic Red Sangria.
If you are in love with both red wine and whiskey, there is no need to try to choose between them. Put them together in this amazing cocktail.
Styled after a New York Sour, a fancy drink that combines both wine and whiskey, this is a simpler easier to make version of that cocktail. It uses a dark red wine, and has a deeper flavor that works perfectly with the whiskey.
WHAT TYPE OF WHISKEY SHOULD I USE?
You can use whatever whiskey that you love and have on hand, though our preference is Knob Creek.
WHAT TYPE OF RED WINE SHOULD I USE?
We used a really simple, just barely sweet red blend. We would also recommend Pinot Noir or a Cabernet.
CAN I MIX WHISKEY AND WINE?
You absolutely can. The idea that mixing wine and liquor will make you sick is a myth. As long as you drink this in moderation, just like any liquor, you will be good to go.
Besides. It’s delicious.

Wow. Just wow. My hubby and I have dubbed this a “book-reading drink.” I can’t believe how well these ingredients go together! So smooth, deep yet light. (Used a cabernet sauvignon and a bourbon, fresh lemon juice and simple syrup made with honey.)
